An easy beginner guitar tutorial to help you learn the song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman on guitar fast with easy chords options, no complicated theory and without a capo (if you don’t have one or don’t want to use one). Learn how to play and sing this song in 2 easy steps.

INTRO:

VERSE 1:
  • C G Em D x 4
INTERLUDE: (No singing, fills gap between verses)
  • C G Em D x2 (Same rhythm as intro)

(Keep repeating the verse-interlude sequence until you reach the chorus)

[VERSE 2] + [INTERLUDE] (Verse 2 & 3 same chords as Verse 1)

[VERSE 3] + [INTERLUDE]

VERSE 4: (The verse right before the chorus is half the length of a normal verse)
  • C G Em D x 2
INTERLUDE: (Before Chorus) (The chorus starts towards the end of the interlude)
  • C G Em D
  • C G Em (–So)
  • D (–remember when we were)
CHORUS:
  • C G Em D (–driving, driving in your….drunk)
  • C G Em D (–city lights…. shoulder)
  • C Em D (–and I, I,… feeling that I belonged)
  • C Em D (–I, I…. be someone)
  • C Em (–be someone, be someone)

[INTERLUDE]

[VERSE 5] + [INTERLUDE] (Verse 5 & 6 same chords as Verse 1)

[CHORUS] + [INTERLUDE]

[VERSE 6] + [INTERLUDE]

[CHORUS] + [INTERLUDE]

VERSE 7:
  • C G Em D x 2
OUTRO:
  • C G Em D x4 (Same rhythm as intro)
  • C (End on C)

Note: Chords on Ultimate Guitar may be different from the tutorial above due to being in a different key or because the author has simply used different chords from my version. Use the transposing tool available on their site to transpose chords to the key you wish to play in.

BEGINNER TIPS:

Replace F Major with F7 if F Major is too difficult to play.  The original key of the song is F# so capo the 6th fret and use the chords in the tutorial if you want to play in the same key as the original song. This song can be abit challenging to sing and play at first, but keep at it and listen to the original song a few times to give yourself an idea of the rhythm.
