BEGINNER TIPS:

Playing Bm might be difficult for some people, so an alternative is to simply replace Bm with D in the song. It won’t sound as accurate but it will still sound ok. This way you can play the song with 4 chords instead of 5.

If you have trouble with chord changes, replace the D, Em and C chords with Dsus4, Em7 and Cadd9 respectively. Using these chords make chord changes much easier for beginners and in some cases even makes the song sound better than if you just used the normal chords.

CHORDS USED (5): G D Em Bm C

Easier Chord Options (4): G Dsus4 Em7 Cadd9

  • Tutorial Song Key: G
  • Original Song Key: G

STRUMMING PATTERN

Down Strokes Only: (Recommended for beginners)
  • down down DOWN down | down down DOWN down
Up and Down Strokes:
  • down down DOWN (down up) | down down DOWN (down up)

hi great lessons and masses of them, thanks. im a relatively new guitar player /beginner, the main problem i have is getting the timing with the right hand ( the strumming pattern). and no one seems to spend any time breaking it down into a manageable lesson. As this is where you get the sound for a particular song, it seems a more in depth strumming lesson would be a fantastic step forward at least for me. please help. thanks simon south wales uk
