Why I Created This Site

When I first started playing the guitar, I spent 2 months attending eight $20 half hour lessons. By the end of it I was $160 poorer and so frustrated with the classes I almost gave up guitar altogether.

The problem I had was that my instructors were trying to teach me guitar theory while making me play songs that were so old and boring that I would never personally choose to play them – ever.

Most of what I know now about playing the guitar I learned from friends, learning guitar songs on my own and performing with people.

We didn’t have You Tube back then or sites like Ultimate-Guitar so learning new songs wasn’t always easy.

I started this site because I wanted to create an easy to use resource that beginners could use to learn to play the guitar quickly and easily.

Here I teach the least you need to know in order to start playing and then give you a resource of easy guitar song tutorials and links to chords and lyrics so you can play on your own in your bedroom or jam with your friends.

I remember when I started, the most exciting thing for me about playing the guitar was being able to play the songs I liked quickly and easily.

I didn’t care about theory, arpeggio’s or other Italian terms at the time. I could play the song I liked on guitar, and the feeling was awesome!

Here on this site, I want you to experience that feeling of joy of being able to play the songs you want on guitar without the need to go through endless hours of boring (and mostly unused) theory and practice drills.

Learning to play the guitar has been one of the greatest joys of my life – I hope through my site and lessons I will help you learn a skill that you can enjoy for many years to come.

About Me

My name is Ian and I’ve known how to play the guitar for years but stopped playing actively for a long time.

I used to perform in bands in school, in church and just jam with friends but over the years new responsibilities and commitments meant I had less and less time to play and just learn new songs.

Only recently have I taken a renewed interest in improving my playing and singing. It could be because GLEE started showing on TV or because I joined a youth band. It’s hard to say, but I felt inspired.

My singing isn’t great ( very average vocal range + a low voice) so I try to work on it so that at the very least I don’t go out of tune and make people do that thing with their face like someone is scratching their nails against a blackboard (*cringe).

Nonetheless, I enjoy teaching, learning and playing the guitar. It’s a great way to entertain yourself and friends on trips and a fun way to express yourself.

Knowing how to play the guitar is a skill I’m glad I was able to acquire, and I hope with the lessons on this site I will help you do the same.

I think you’re an awesome teacher. Good job. I have a dad who could play well, but he’s teaching me all those old, old, old songs which I don’t like (and don’t know), so I’m having a hard time to catch up. Thanks to you, I’m now able to play (reasonably, I think) well! I’ll be performing on stage soon. Thanks again!

Hello Ian, you’ve taught me how to play The One That Got Away, Safe & Sound etc. I like your teachings very much. They were simple and straightforward. Hopefully, I can learn more songs from you next time. Am I able to request songs from you to teach me how to play on guitar? I’m actually a beginner. But, I want to play songs that I really like to sing out. Anyway, thanks again for your teachings. I will keep coming back to your site and learn more new songs. Thanks, Ian.

Dude, you are an awesome teacher. I can almost make it through a song after a week of practicing every day. I really like that you give easy ways to practice the stuff that you know is going to give me grief. You’re always right and the exercises are working. Thank you!!
