If you have trouble with chord changes, replace the D, Em and C chords with Dsus4, Em7 and Cadd9 respectively. Using these chords make chord changes much easier for beginners and in some cases even makes the song sound better than if you just used the normal chords.

The original key of the song is F# so capo the 11th fret and use the chords below if you want to play in the same key as the original song. Capo-ing very high in the neck isn’t something I recommend, but given the chords I’ve chosen, this is the fastest way to transpose chords in an emergency.

BEGINNER TIPS:

Playing Bm might be difficult for some people, so an alternative is to simply replace Bm with D in the song. It won’t sound as accurate but it will still sound pretty good. This way you can play the song with 4 chords instead of 5.

If you have trouble with chord changes, replace the D, Em and C chords with Dsus4, Em7 and Cadd9 respectively. Using these chords make chord changes much easier for beginners and in some cases even makes the song sound better than if you just used the normal chords.

The original key of the song is D so capo the 7th fret and use the chords below if you want to play in the same key as the original song.

—————————————-

CHORDS USED (5): G D Em Bm C

Easier Chord Options (4): G Dsus4 Em7 Cadd9

  • Tutorial Song Key: G
  • Original Song Key: D (Capo 7th fret)

STRUMMING PATTERN

Down Strokes Only: (Recommended for beginners)
  • down down DOWN down | down down DOWN down
Up and Down Strokes:
  • down down DOWN (down up) | down down DOWN (down up)

TIP – Alternate strumming for Intro and Interludes:
For the intro and interludes, instead of just using the standard strumming pattern, you can use the following instead. It will make it sound more similar to the way it’s played in Taylor Swifts original version. Refer to the tutorial video to get the timing:

  • Em – down down DOWN (down up) down down DOWN (down up)
  • C – down down (down up)
  • G – (down___) down (down up) (down up)
